Make a Difference in Your Community
Bring Your Experience and Expertise to Support Queer Artists and Activists
ABOUT BOARD MEMBERSHIP
National Queer Theater is seeking new board members to directly engage with our work to produce theater and community programs that celebrate queer artists in the US and around the world. Board members are the fiduciaries and governing body of NQT, supporting the organization through strategy, oversight, and accountability. This is distinct from the NQT staff, who run the day-to-day operations of the organization and oversee programming.
Board members contribute wisdom, experience, and connections. Previous board members have reported building deeper ties to the LGBTQ+ community, feeling more inspired and engaged with activism efforts, and finding satisfaction in making a difference at a growing organization.
Board members commit to meeting 5 times a year in-person in NYC, attending performances, introducing the organization to their network, and directly contributing or helping raise $1,000 each year.
This is an important time to join the Board. Leading up to NQT’s 10th anniversary in 2028, NQT is pursuing a three-year strategic plan to invest in organizational infrastructure and improve our artistic processes to support queer artists for the long haul. This plan aligns our internal practices with our values, strengthens our artistic programming to reach broader audiences, and positions us as a leader in the fight for LGBTQ+ freedom of expression.
BOARD DIVERSITY
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of NQT’s work. Queer people of color, immigrants, trans and gender non-confirming individuals, people with disabilities, and people living with HIV are especially encouraged to apply.
APPLICATION
We are accepting applications in this round of board recruitment until 6pm on November 26th.
Once the application window has closed, we will conduct interviews to introduce applicants to current board members, staff members, artists, and/or other community members. This is an opportunity for National Queer Theater to learn more about you and for you to learn more about National Queer Theater.
The final decision will be made by the end of December, with an opportunity for new board members to share in end of year socializing and cultural onboarding before beginning to attend formal board meetings in January 2026.
Thank you for considering board membership. If you have any questions, please email rose@nationalqueertheater.org.
